Path of Exile 2 Rise of the Abyssal League will soon conclude, and GGG recently revealed the release date for the upcoming 0.4.0 update, Last of The Druids: December 12. Other than the titular new class, this patch is also bringing a massive Skill rebalance on 90 Skill Gems, 250 new Passives, a Spell Totem, and a make-your-own-dungeon League.

Patch 0.4 will also co-incide with the game's second free weekend, allowing everyone to experience the game.

As GGG had explained earlier this year, they will stick to a 4-month cycle with PoE2 Leagues. Many players therefore expected 0.4.0 to drop before the holidays begin, and they were right. Path of Exile 2's Last of The Druids update is going to release on December 12, 2025, at 11 am PST.

As for the major features (other than the big-picture permanent stuff like 250 new nodes on the Passive Tree), we are getting:

  • The Druid class with four Primal forms obtainable by equipping the new Talisman weapon type
  • Two Ascendancies for Druids: the Oracle, with exclusive access to 130 new nodes on Passive Trees (on top of the 250 new ones added in patch 0.4), and the Shaman, with Shaman-exclusive additional mods on Runes and Idols.
  • A big rebalance of all classes, including 90 Skills, numerous Support Gems, as well as the addition of 30 new Support Gems
  • The Echoes of The Vaal League, that adds a bunch of fresh crafting options, including Double-Corruption and random mod replacement on Vaal Unqiues.
  • Endgame rebalance, pushing the monster density reduction intorduced in patch 0.3.1 to the entirety of the Endgame, with buffs to drop quantities to balance it out.
  • The Delirium fog being overtuned was a bug all along, and after one year of suffering through it, we can finally see things on maps with this mechanic.

What happens after Path of Exile 2 Abyssal League ends?

People who started playing during The Third Edict's launch will have all their characters, along with their items, migrate to the Standard League. It’s the permanent realm that doesn’t feature the latest League mechanics and where everything ends up after each season.

The game will retain character progress even for those who only played during the early access free weekend. It means people planning to come back will find their characters as they left in the Standard League tab after the update.

As for the Abyssal League mechanic itself, that's being transferred to the core game. However, it's now mainly being crammed into the Endgame, so you won't face many during the campaign as you may have had in the 0.3 League. However, 0.4.0 will also introduce a set of Abyss nodes to the Path of Exile 2 Atlas Tree.
