Path of Exile 2 is hosting another free weekend with the release of the Last of the Druids. The update introduces a new character class and the ability to shapeshift into various primal beasts. However, that’s not all. Following the success of the free weekend during The Third Edict (patch 0.3) update, Grinding Gear Games has announced another one.
The update is set ot launch on December 12, 2025, and the game, which is currently in paid early access, will be free for everyone. This includes everything from the campaign to league mechanics and the endgame. There are no restrictions on content or character level throughout the free weekend.
How to play Path of Exile 2 for free

Path of Exile 2 will be accessible to everyone from December 12 to December 15. During this time, the game will be available to download for free across all platforms. It’s a good opportunity to try the game if you missed the previous free weekend.
All you need to do is head over to the preferred platform and download the game. For PC, the game is available on Steam, Epic Games, and the official website (through launcher). Note that the pre-load feature is only available to those who already have access to the game.
Once the update is live, you’ll need to download the entire game. Path of Exile 2 is around 90 GB in download and requires around 110 GB of storage on PC, so make sure you have enough storage. Another thing to note is that further optimization and a reduction in the number of on-screen enemies have reportedly improved performance. If you previously tried the game and encountered low FPS, it’s worth trying again after the update.

What happens after the free weekend for Path of Exile 2 ends

After the free weekend concludes, you won’t be able to access the game unless there is another free weekend or you purchase one of the early access packs. As for the progress you made with your character and equipment, the game will retain your account details.
However, if the next time you log into the game is after the current League, your characters and items will move to a different space. They will be accessible, but if you want to play the latest update, you’ll need to make a new character. This is true for even those who have access to the game. After each league in Path of Exile 2, all characters and their inventory move to the Standard League.
