Guild Wars Reforged gives players access to ten fantastic professions, which are this game’s version of classes. While you can dual class, your starting profession is just as important because it sets the tone for the rest of your time on that character. Honestly, I cannot stress enough that there’s really no wrong way to start. Even Monk is a great starter profession if you have another way to deal damage (have a premade party)
As long as you owned at least one part of the original game, you have access to all three campaigns. So you can start as any of Guild Wars Reforged’s professions. Below, we’re going to go over what profession may be right for you to begin with, but whatever you do, pick it because it sounds fun.
Which profession is right for you in Guild Wars Reforged?
There’s really no wrong way to play Guild Wars Reforged, and there are plenty of professions to pick from and later dual class into. While you can only pick Assassin, Ritualist, Paragon, and Dervish as your base in specific campaigns, you can dual class into them later, regardless of what campaign you’re on. Below are your options:

All professions
- Warrior (Melee Damage)
- Ranger (Ranged Damage, Pets)
- Monk (Healer, Party Support)
- Necromancer (Ranged Magical Damage, Minion builds)
- Mesmer (Ranged Magical Damage, controller/interrupter)
- Elementalist (Ranged Magical Damage, mighty AOE damage)
- Assassin (Melee Damage, Crit Machine) (Can only start if in Factions campaign)
- Ritualist (Ranged Magic Damage, Spirits, Protection, Support) (Can only start if in Factions campaign)
- Paragon (Melee Damage, Potential Tank, Barbarian-like Shouts) (Can only start if in Nightfall campaign)
- Dervish (Melee Damage, AOE Machine, Incredibly fast and high sustain) (Can only start if in Nightfall campaign)
While Warrior might sound like the best profession if you plan on tanking in Guild Wars Reforged, it’s really not your only option. I recommend Dervish if you want to really get up close, deal AOE damage, and be pretty self-reliant. They use enchantments to allow them to tank. Another great option (and my personal favorite) is Necromancer. You can use your minions to hold aggro!
Many professions can tank like Paragons (more of a support tank), but you’ve got so many options. If you want to heal, Monk is the all-around top-tier healer, but you can also play Ritualist to be a support healer and prevent incoming damage. There are other options for more experienced players (Elementalist/Monk Bonder, for example), but that takes more skill and experience.

If you’re looking for DPS that’s easy and beginner-friendly in Guild Wars Reforged, the professions I’d pick are Warrior, Ranger, and Necromancer. They’re easy, deal lots of damage, and feel good to play.
Finally, if you’re looking for something in solo play that’s sustainable, reliable, and most of all, powerful, there are a few options. Rangers, Necromancers, Mesmers, Assassins, and Ritualists. They all excel at the game in one way or another, and feel incredibly good to play solo with. Having Henchmen might help with some (EG, Assassin), but I think if you’re primarily playing solo, you can’t go wrong with any of the above choices.
