Triple H may have been forced to change the winner of Last Time is Now Tournament match due to unfortunate incident

The quarter-finals of the Last Time is Now Tournament began on the November 24, edition of WWE RAW. While Gunther defeated Carmelo Hayes in the first of the quarter-final matches, the second one ended abruptly due to an unfortunate incident.

Solo Sikoa faced Penta in the second round of the Last Time is Now Tournament, with a spot in the last four on the line. The luchador attempted a hurricanrana from the barricade and landed awkwardly, seemingly dislocating his shoulder in the process.

Penta seemed likely to win against Solo Sikoa

Despite intervention from the WWE doctors at ringside, the match had to be called off since Penta was unable to continue. Considering the way the brackets were shaped, it seemed very likely that Penta would pick up the win over Sikoa.

However, the victory had to be given to the leader of the MFTs since his opponent was unable to continue. This was likely a decision that Triple H and the creative team had to make abruptly after Penta got injured.

WWE has been maintaining a heel vs. babyface dynamic for the Last Time is Now Tournament

The Last Time is Now Tournament has not been exempt from WWE's tendency to have babyfaces and heels on opposing sides. While LA Knight vs. Zack Ryder was perhaps one of the notable exceptions, the other matches have all had clear faces and heels.

Had Penta defeated Sikoa, he would have gone on to face Gunther in the semifinal, which is likely what the original plan was.

Penta's injury has caused a heel vs. heel match in the semi-final

Now that the former AEW star is injured and out of the tournament, Sikoa will face Gunther in the semifinal. This is a heel vs. heel dynamic that the company typically tries to avoid for most of its storylines.

However, for the tournament, it doesn't seem like much of a problem. Not to mention, Gunther was the favorite to win the Last Time is Now Tournament regardless of who he faced in the semifinal. The fact that his match is against Sikoa is not expected to affect the outcome of their upcoming clash, despite the sudden change to the Penta vs. Sikoa quarter-final match.
