WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio recently returned to the red brand, and a new report suggests that The Master of 619 is slated for a major title match outside the Stamford-based promotion.

Earlier this year, Rey Mysterio was in a feud with El Grande Americano when he suffered an unfortunate groin injury and spent months away from the ring as a performer. When he returned to the red brand, he immediately locked horns with his son, Dominik Mysterio, who is the current AAA Mega Champion.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Eduardo Bates, a notable Lucha Libre journalist, reported that the WWE Hall of Famer is set to face Dominik Mysterio for the AAA Mega Championship. While the insider doesn't know if the legend is slated to take the title from his son, Bates thinks it's possible, as Rey has never won the title.

“Rey Mysterio was announced for Guerra de Titanes. I can tell you he is expected to face Dominik there for the AAA Mega Championship. I don’t know if Rey will take the Mega Championship at Guerra de Titanes; that would be very interesting and very beautiful. At one point, Dominik told Rey Mysterio, ‘You’ve never won the Mega Championship,’ so it’s possible Rey takes it from him, and the story develops from there," Bates said. [H/T - EWrestlingNews]

What's next for WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio?

In 2022, Rey Mysterio entered into one of the most intense feuds of his career when his son, Dominik Mysterio, turned on him and joined The Judgment Day. A few months later, the two finally had a one-on-one match in California when the WWE Hall of Famer defeated his son at The Grandest Stage of Them All.

The two have crossed paths on several occasions all over the weekly product, and Rey and Dirty Dom are again feuding on the red brand. In an interview with The Schmo last year, Mysterio stated that he plans to retire when the wheels fall off, and plans have changed since his son turned heel.

"I got to retire. I got to retire before the wheels fall off as a matter of fact. My plan obviously didn't work out the way I wanted to. I wanted to pass on the torch to my son. It seems like now my son is passing on the torch to me. That's crazy," Mysterio said.

The 50-year-old WWE legend might not have too many years left in him as a performer.
