An accidental title change caused chaos backstage in WWE. This week on NXT, Blake Monroe put her North American title on the line against Thea Hail. The finish of the match left everyone stunned as it was unplanned.
Toward the end of the contest, Hail hit a Springboard Back Senton on Monroe and covered her for the pin. Monroe was unable to kick out as the referee made a three-count to crown a new champion. However, this was not the planned finish.
Both wrestlers were shocked as they stared at the referee. Now, reports have emerged about how this unexpected finish was received backstage.
Fightful Select has reported that one NXT staff member told them that this accidental title change occurred at the worst possible time. Since the brand was wrapping up filming for the year, creative had already filmed and finalized plans for the next few weeks.

The report adds that after the unexpected finish, there was a rush backstage in order to correct things that had already been filmed so that they made sense. Moreover, there was also an error on WWE's website indicating Blake Monroe had won before it was rectified.
It remains to be seen how Shawn Michaels, who oversees NXT creatively, deals with the situation going forward.
WWE planning a rematch between Blake Monroe and Thea Hail
While Thea Hail has been soaking in her surprise title win on NXT, WWE may already be working on a rematch between her and Blake Monroe.
According to a report from Bodyslam.net, a rematch for the North American championship between the two stars will take place on NXT New Year's Evil on January 6, 2026.
It is possible that the promotion decides to put the championship back on Monroe, as she was not supposed to lose the title in the first place. Meanwhile, The Glamor has been calling out the result of the match on social media.
