Original plans for AJ Lee amid WWE absence - Reports

AJ Lee returned to WWE after over a decade and impressed the audience with her performance at Wrestlepalooza in Indiana. According to a report, there were plans for the multi-time champion amid her absence from the product.

September 2025 marked the return of AJ Lee to the Stamford-based promotion for the first time in over a decade. She teamed up with her real-life husband, CM Punk, and defeated Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins in a Mixed Tag Team match in Indiana.

However, she went on a sudden hiatus from the company and hasn't returned to the weekly product yet. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), Lee and Lynch were supposed to play a part in the upcoming Women's WarGames match.

Both stars were initially supposed to be on opposite teams for the event in San Diego, California. While there's a possibility that they could be added to the match on this week's RAW, the feud was shelved after Wrestlepalooza, and it'll be interesting to see what's next for AJ Lee in the company.

When will AJ Lee return to WWE?

After Wrestlepalooza 2025, many expected AJ Lee to go after championship gold in the Stamford-based promotion. The Geek Goddess hasn't held a title in the promotion since November 2014. With a win over Becky Lynch, fans assumed that a feud for the Women's Intercontinental Championship was in the works.

However, Big Time Becks shifted her focus towards Maxxine Dupri, and The Black Widow went on a hiatus from the company. According to Netflix, the three-time WWE Divas Champion was advertised for WWE RAW in Madison Square Garden.

Coincidentally, Becky Lynch is set to defend her title against Dupri on the same show. There's a high chance Lynch and Lee will cross paths on the same show and could reignite their feud, which was abruptly ended due to AJ Lee's absence from the product.
