John Cena's WWE retirement tour has been extremely entertaining for those who have seen his career progress over the last 23 years. Cena faced many of his rivals from his past during this run and had exciting matches with Randy Orton, CM Punk, and AJ Styles.

However, the one match that fans won't think about as fondly from this retirement tour is the clash with Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza. It proved to be a very short match between the two rivals, and Lesnar ended up squashing Cena. The result was met negatively by almost all fans, while they were even more puzzled that the ending of the match didn't even have a payoff.

John Cena's father felt similarly regarding the match and recently revealed how he felt that the match should've been booked between Lesnar and Cena. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda Wrestling, he said that WWE should've had Paul Heyman turn heel on Lesnar and had Cena save him from The Brons to set up a tag match alongside the Beast Incarnate.

"I still can't fathom why the hell the Brock Lesnar thing went the way it did. It made absolutely no sense in my book. I would have written it a different way, where Heyman shakes hands with Lesnar. They're buddies. He's pounding Cena. Cena gets the win back. Next thing you know, out comes Heyman with his two henchmen, right? Bronson and Breaker. They come out, and Lesnar smiles like, Hey, my pals are here. They get the ring, look at Lesnar, they start pounding the living nuts out of him. And then Cena comes in and rescues. Now we've got a tag match set up, we have another storyline," Cena Sr. said.

Brock Lesnar returned at SummerSlam 2025 right after John Cena lost his Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes. Since returning, he has only been involved in the match with Cena and has been missing since his appearance at Wrestlepalooza.

He was recently featured in the poster for WrestleMania 42, so that indicates that his WWE return wasn't just for Cena's farewell tour and that we will likely be a part of the Show of Shows.
