In Lana's final years in the Stamford-based promotion, she focused on her in-ring career following her split from Bobby Lashley and entered a feud with Nia Jax on the red brand. Later, the singles feud became a tag team run as she teamed up with Naomi before her release from WWE in June 2021.

In an appearance on Daria & Toni Unwrapped, CJ Perry, fka Lana, talked about her release from the Stamford-based promotion in 2021 and revealed new details. The WWE legend stated that she had three more years left on her contract before her release.

"No. I actually had three more years on my contract. So, I got released. I was on a five-year contract. I covered two, which was such a great blessing because I was on a higher-paying tier, which was so awesome. But it got cut short," Perry said.

Later, she revealed that the release came out of nowhere after she got permission to shoot for a reality television show, The Surreal Life.

"Actually, Surreal Life came to WWE and asked if we could have [Lana], and Vince [McMahon] approved it, and Johnny Ace did too, and two days after they approved it, they let me go," Perry said.

Perry had her own explanation behind the release and had no issues with the company's decision, as she's now on a legends deal with the promotion.

Lana never won a title in WWE

After a successful run as Rusev's on-screen manager and working in a storyline with her then-fiancé, Lana slowly transitioned into an in-ring performer in the Stamford-based promotion. The Ravishing Russian had several matches on the house circuit in 2016 before adopting a new gimmick in 2017 and appearing on WWE SmackDown.

Lana often competed in championship matches and was heavily featured in storylines on the main roster. In her final run, she entered the tag team division and teamed up with Naomi. Unfortunately, she didn't win any championship in the company before her release in June 2021.
