Gunther is considered by many to be one of the best wrestlers in WWE today. The Ring General has been a dominant force ever since he made his debut in NXT UK back in 2019. He hasn't been seen on television since losing to CM Punk at SummerSlam 2025, and fans have been eagerly waiting for him to return.

For the majority of his career in WWE, Gunther had been flanked by members of Imperium. Following Giovanni Vinci's release, Ludwig Kaiser and Gunther continued as a duo until they were both split up on screen as well. Recently, WWE legend Teddy Long suggested that, if it were up to him, he would love to return to the company and manage the former World Champion.

Long was talking on the most recent episode of The Wrestling Time Machine on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge. He said that there's something about Gunther that draws him. He added that he would love to explore being a heel with Gunther, as that's something fans would never expect from the former SmackDown General Manager.

"I think it would probably be Gunther. There's something about Gunther that he just draws me, you know. And with what's happening in the world today, you know, I could, you know, turn heel there. People would never think that I would do that. You know what I mean? And go with Gunther, and kind of go with the other side. You know what I mean? Golly, I think that would be tremendous heat," Long said.

Gunther was even named as the best wrestler of 2025 by Teddy Long despite not being available for large parts of the year. He has had an eventful year nonetheless, having lost the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41 before reclaiming the belt from Jey Uso. He would eventually drop the belt to CM Punk in his last televised appearance to date.
