It was the end of an era as The Cenation Leader finally retired from in-ring competition. The star put on a classic against Gunther at the event. He came close to winning the match after two Attitude Adjustments on The Ring General. However, his opponent caught him in a Sleeper Hold, forcing the 17-time World Champion to tap out. John Cena Sr. recently spoke about the bout.

During an exclusive chat with Bill Apter, John Cena Sr. said that the ending should have been booked differently. He felt that his son should have tried to escape from the Sleeper Hold, forcing Gunther to strap on the lock even harder. This would have led to John blacking out instead of tapping. Cena Sr. believed the referee should have then called off the match, awarding the win to The Ring General.

"I'm not sure that's a tapout. I wonder if it's the last effort to try to break that hold. That would have been a good deal right there. And then, Gunther would have clutched it even more, and Cena would have blacked out. Period. Without a tapout. So Gunther would have still been the winner by default because Cena couldn't answer the ten-count. It would have been better to go that way than I think the way it kind of went."
