The fans were firmly behind the 17-time World Champion as he seemed close to winning the gold. However, Gunther finally caught him in a Sleeper Hold. The legend put up a wry smile and tapped out, ending the match and his in-ring career. The fans were irate with the booking and booed Triple H when he showed up for Saturday Night's Main Event post-show. Hunter tried to explain the rationale behind the booking, but fans were having none of it. In fact, some fans even chanted that they wanted Vince McMahon back in the WWE. Former boss Vince McMahon showed up in the vignette, talking about Cena's legacy. Although it was a past clip, WWE made the conscious decision to feature him. John himself was seen smiling when Vince showed up on the screen. This was the first time WWE alluded to Vince after the former Chairman stepped away from the company due to the Janel Grant lawsuit. It will be interesting to see if this leads to more appearances in the future.
