After losing to Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series: WarGames 2025, John Cena only has one date left on his retirement tour. The 17-time World Champion will retire after one final outing inside the ring at Saturday Night's Main Event on December 13.

The Triple H-led creative team is holding The Last Time Is Now Tournament to determine Cena's final opponent. The finalists of this tournament, Gunther and LA Knight, will battle it out to receive the opportunity to retire The GOAT.

Dave Meltzer believes John Cena needs to win his final WWE match

During a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that he believes if Gunther wins The Last Time Is Now Tournament, he needs to lose against John Cena at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event in the latter's final match.

Meltzer highlighted that Cena should not retire after losing two consecutive bouts, as he lost against Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series: WarGames.

"I think now, John has to beat Gunther. Because he should not go out losing two in a row. If he lost here, then he's really (...) I don't know what's gonna happen in that match, but to me, if John was gonna lose here, he should beat Gunther, if it is Gunther. They can always switch. I mean, they haven't shown much of an inclination to do that, but they always can."

It remains to be seen what the Triple H-led creative team has planned for John Cena's final WWE match.
