A popular star released from WWE earlier this year is all set to wrestle AEW Women's Champion Kris Statlander. It will be her first match since departing the Stamford-based wrestling promotion. The name in question is former WWE Women's Tag Team Champion Dakota Kai. The Damage CTRL member was among the most popular stars on the roster let go by the global juggernaut following WrestleMania 41. She has been enjoying a break from wrestling while streaming online and has not joined any promotion despite her 90-day non-compete clause expiring in August.Moments ago, Pro-Wrestling: EVE announced a massive match for Wrestle Kingdom VIII. In what will most likely be her first match since March, Dakota Kai will challenge Kris Statlander for the Pro-Wrestling: EVE International Championship. Kai will wrestle under the ring name Charlie at the event slated to take place on International Women's Day next year at the O2 Indigo. Wrestling veteran slams WWE following Dakota Kai's releaseWorld Wrestling Entertainment previously released Dakota Kai from her contract in April 2022. However, she made her return three months later alongside Bayley and IYO SKY at the SummerSlam Premium Live Event. While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's BroDown following Dakota Kai's release, wrestling veteran Vince Russo stated that the 37-year-old getting released after she was brought back suggested that the wrestling promotion is clueless. Russo added that he had already predicted Kai's release. He further questioned the company's booking of its female talent."I find it unusual because it's the second time. Even though this was Dakota Kai's second time, which tells you how messed up they are. If you're letting somebody go, bringing them back, and then letting them go a second time, that kind of reeks of you don't know what you're doing. I do a show every Friday called Thursday thrashing Friday, and I talked about WWE go through women wrestlers like breath mints. I even said on that show, I said Dakota Kai was gonna get released this morning. And I had no inside information. But Mac, I don't know what it is with the way WWE just goes through women's talent without getting anybody over," Russo said.Only time will tell whether Dakota Kai will ever make her return to World Wrestling Entertainment.
