WWE fans have been left confused and somewhat upset following Saturday Night's Main Event, after John Cena tapped out to Gunther. Cena tapped out for the first time in more than two decades and it appears that there was a reason for the ending, and the 17-time World Champion was not buried. Cena has had a persona on WWE TV over the past two decades that prides itself on his "Never Give Up" attitude. This was a character that the former World Champion was proud of for many years and now he has finally given up and ended the chapter. Cena not tapping out for so long played into his "Super Cena" character and it meant that he was unstoppable, but now it's clear that he no longer needs to be that man, and he was happy to hand the keys over to Gunther. John Cena last tapped out back in 2004The statistic came to light ahead of John Cena's final match which left fans bemused that he had been able to embark on a 20 plus year career without ever giving up. Of course, Cena made a career out of never giving up, but since his career is now over, there is no reason for him to hold on to it. Cena has reiterated many times in recent months that he won't be wrestling ever again. He has no reason to make his return, and if he had left this door open and fans had pushed to see who could finally end his legacy, then he may have felt the need to return. Cena wanted this to be a definitive end, no more Super Cena, no more " Never Give Up, this was his official farewell, and it seems that despite the outcome, it was on his own terms.
