Only one man in WWE can defeat Gunther following his win over John Cena, says Hall of Famer

Gunther became the ultimate heel in the industry at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event when he lived up to his promise and won the match via submission. Meanwhile, Bubba Ray Dudley pitched an idea and believes Cody Rhodes might be the only man to defeat him.

Gunther reached new heights in the Stamford-based promotion when he retired two legends in their final match for the company. After the win against John Cena, The Ring General became the most hated man in the industry, and it looks like he will be pushed further up on the card in the coming months and years.

Speaking on Busted Open, WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley pitched an idea in which the only man to defeat Gunther would be Cody Rhodes. However, it won't happen anytime soon, and The American Nightmare will only be able to defeat The Ring General when he gets a motivational assist from John Cena.

"One day, Cody Rhodes is going to be face-to-face with Gunther... By the time we get there, Gunther will have been built up to a level where he will be the immovable object. He's going to be THAT guy. Cody is going to have doubts, and Cody is going to have a problem with Gunther... One day, like a Force ghost, John Cena will return at the right moment to remind Cody who he is. In my world, that's what I see happening," Dudley said.

Over the years, Triple H's creative regime has tinkered with some of the classic gimmick matches and premium live events in the Stamford-based promotion. While many fans enjoyed brand wars on WWE's main roster, the new regime tried something different with it in 2024.

Instead of the traditional 5-on-5 elimination match with superstars from RAW and SmackDown, the creative team decided to pit both world champions of their respective divisions against each other in a one-on-one match for the Crown Jewel Championship.

Last year, Cody Rhodes became the inaugural Crown Jewel Champion when he defeated Gunther in Saudi Arabia. This was the only time The American Nightmare has scored a win over The Ring General, and it'll be interesting to see when the two meet inside the ring for another match.
