LA Knight beat Zack Ryder while Michael Cole buried him on commentary

The star was the mystery opponent for LA Knight in the "Last Time Is Now" tournament to face John Cena. Knight had been announced by Aldis already last week, but the star facing him was not.

Ryder returned to an immediate burial on commentary as they ignored the fact that he had achieved a lot in the indies and had become one of the biggest indie stars during his time away from the company. Michael Cole made the comment during the live show, while highlighting that Ryder had beaten him.

John Cena's last match opening SNME - Check out Why!

"This might be the second biggest highlight of Zack Ryder's career."

He said that the other time was when he beat Cole in a WWE match. Although Cardona had noted that "Zack Ryder" was dead, it seems that was not true. Ryder is now a competitor and ready to face John Cena. This was his first match on WWE's main roster in the last five years.

Unfortunately, that was not to be. LA Knight was able to beat him after a hard-hitting match. Ryder hit Knight with the Broski Boot. He even hit the Rough Ryder, but Knight was able to kick out, hit the Powerbomb, and then a BFT to get the win. It was a bad loss for Ryder, spoiling his return to the ring.

Ryder has a history with John Cena in WWE

Ryder and John Cena share a storied rivalry. The two stars were on the same team and were best friends on the show. Ryder, while injured, was even used to torture Cena, as Kane threw the star off the stage.

The two even became rivals, after Cena "stole" Ryder's then girlfriend, Eva Marie in the storyline.

Cena even mentioned him in the pipebomb he delivered earlier this year.
