Former WWE manager Jim Cornette recently spoke about John Cena's final RAW episode. His last ever appearance happened this past week at Madison Square Garden.
It was an emotional moment as John Cena showed up at the historic Madison Square Garden for his final RAW appearance. However, his promo was cut short by Dominik Mysterio, who interrupted the Intercontinental Championship, demanding a rematch. Cena was ready for a fight, but "Dirty" Dom said that the rematch would happen on his own home turf in San Diego during Survivor Series. This set up a six-man tag team match where John teamed up with Sheamus and Rey Mysterio against Dominik, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh of The Judgment Day.
On a recent episode of Jim Cornette's Drive Thru, the veteran manager noted that fans loved the six-man tag team match. He felt WWE creative did the right thing and gave fans a throwback matchup to send them home happy. Cornette noted this was a befitting end to John Cena's RAW appearances. He also pointed out that Dominik was not in the ring during the pinfall, thus protecting him ahead of the Intercontinental Championship rematch.
"It was a spotshow match and the fans loved it. That's exactly what they wanted to see. They didn't need to do anything different. And Dominik was outside the ring when the pinfall was made. So they couldn't have done that much better." He continued, "You could tell this was what the people in New York viewed as a big deal and came to see. You had to make them as happy as possible. So, the right move here."
