John Cena is nearing his retirement. His father has commented on who he wants his son to face in his final match.John Cena and Kurt Angle have a long history together. Cena made his debut against the Olympic gold medalist on SmackDown and took him to the limit. Although he didn't win the match, he earned the respect of his peers, including The Undertaker. Over the years, Cena and Angle would compete against each other several times. Given their history, Cena's father thought that he should be the one to retire his son.During a recent appearance on the All Axxess podcast, Cena's father said that Kurt Angle would've been an outstanding opponent for his son in his final match. He also noted that his son should've been the one to retire the Olympic gold medalist, not Baron Corbin."I really wish that Kurt Angle was able to get back in the ring, because that would be an outstanding last match for Cena and Angle. And I say this all the time, I really truly believe that [Baron] Corbin should not have been Angle’s opponent for his retirement match — it should have been Cena."Cena Sr. also named Adam Copeland, Chris Jericho, and JBL as other opponents who should've competed in his son's final match.“Who would I like to see John face? Obviously I just kind of emphasized that. I would say Kurt Angle number one. I would say Adam Copeland number two. I would say Chris Jericho number three. And a wildcard on my part, I’d love to see John Cena face JBL. Those would be my four choices.” [H/T F4wonline]John Cena's father wouldn't have picked Gunther to be his son's final opponentGunther and LA Knight made it to the finals of The Last Time is Now Tournament, meaning that either one of them will face Cena in his final match. Currently, Gunther is the favorite to win the match and retire the Last Real Champion. However, the Ring General wouldn't be John Cena's father's first choice.During the same podcast episode, Cena's father said he wouldn't pick Gunther as his son's final opponent because the Ring General doesn't need the rub. He also made it clear he's not a fan of passing the torch on the way out.“Well, it certainly wouldn’t be Gunther, that’s for sure,” Cena Sr. said. “I don’t think that that’s a wise move. I don’t think the fans would enjoy that move. Myself personally, Gunther does not need the rub. By the way, I’m not a fan of [the idea that] on the way out, you’ve got to push somebody over the top, you’re supposed to pass quote-unquote ‘the torch.’ I don’t know where that’s written anywhere in professional wrestling. If we have to use that as an analogy, then he’s already done that with Cody Rhodes. He beat him for the title, he gave the title back, they embraced as you saw, Cody was teary eyed, the torch was passed."It will be sad to see John Cena hang up his boots at Saturday Night's Main Event.
