This Friday on SmackDown, Gunther and LA Knight are set to battle it out to determine Cena's final opponent for his retirement match at Saturday Night's Main Event. The Ring General is favored to win the match, while The Megastar will try to do his best to earn the upset victory.

In an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast, Simmons asked John Cena about his thoughts on Gunther and Knight. Cena praised both stars for earning their place in the WWE and having a successful past couple of years. He particularly expressed his admiration for Knight's attitude, which he called his "biggest hurdle."

"I like the edge that LA Knight has. I like he operates on a nothing to lose sort of thing. I think many times, this is I think, he might be his own biggest hurdle, but gosh, if there's a dude willing to bet on himself, it's LA Knight, and I admire that," Cena said.

That was a huge compliment for LA Knight, coming from John Cena. It could also be a huge piece of advice for The Megastar, if he wants to reach the mountain top in WWE.

John Cena's father names his preferred opponent for The GOAT

Speaking to Joe Bruen on the All Axxess podcast, John Cena's father, who's also named John Cena but not actually a senior, revealed his choice for his son's final opponent. The elder Cena doesn't want Gunther or LA Knight, but a legendary WWE star.

"Who else do I think he should face? I really wish that Kurt Angle was able to get back in the ring, because that would be an outstanding last match for Cena and Angle. And I say this all the time, I really truly believe that Corbin should not have been Angle’s opponent for his retirement match, it should have been Cena," the elder Cena said. In addition to John's final match at SNME, the card will be filled with matches that are going to showcase young stars against veterans. It's a way for The GOAT to give back to the next generation, like what Kurt Angle did to him in 2002.
