WWE veteran John Cena has answered the BIG question just days before his last match at Saturday Night's Main Event XLII. Cena was asked in a recent interview to spill the beans on what's next for him following his final bout.
Gunther will have the biggest opportunity of his career at the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event XLII show. If he pins or submits Cena at the event, he will forever be remembered as the guy who retired the GOAT.
But the question remains, what's next for John Cena after his retirement match on December 13, 2025? In a new chat with Tom Rinaldi, Cena answered the question, "What is next?" with a three-word answer.
"I don't know." [58:55 - 58:56]

John Cena is never going to set foot in the ring again, and here's why
In the same interview, Cena was asked if there's a chance he will ever get back in the ring in a physical capacity. Cena made it clear that he won't, and then explained the reason behind his decision. Here's what he said:
"Physical activity. 100%. And I very rarely speak in absolutes. Because you never know. And I do know in this case. This is why I can speak in absolutes. Because I don't wanna let the people that I made a promise to, down."
Cena's final match is bound to be an emotional rollercoaster for his longtime fans, who've been behind him through thick and thin. Cena will probably shift his full attention to his Hollywood career following his WWE retirement since he's done quite well in the movie industry so far. His fans would love to see him make occasional WWE appearances following his retirement, though.
As for his last match, it remains to be seen if Gunther has it in him to pin The Greatest of All Time before he calls it quits.
