Ever since Ilja Dragunov won the United States Championship, he has carried on the US Title Open challenge. On the October 31 episode of SmackDown, Nathan Frazer and Tommaso Ciampa answered the open challenge. However, Ilja offered the title shot to Frazer. Last week on SmackDown, Ciampa answered his open challenge again. However, Ilja declined his request and instead offered the title shot to Johnny Gargano.

Tonight on WWE SmackDown, Tommaso Ciampa was involved in a backstage segment with Ilja Dragunov and Nick Aldis. Ciampa questioned why he wasn't receiving a title shot. The US Champion stood firm in his stance and denied Ciampa his title shot because he claimed the latter lacked honor. Instead, he defended the title against Axiom. Both men delivered a stellar match, but it was Ilja who retained his title. After the match, Ciampa brutally assaulted Axiom until Nathan Frazer came out to make the save.

Ilja Dragunov called out for a dangerous spot on WWE SmackDown

Ilja Dragunov's match against Nathan Frazer had some intense moments and dangerous spots. One of the spots took place outside the ring when The Mad Dragon hit Frazer with a German suplex. Another dangerous spot saw Ilja hit a German suplex off the top rope, which resulted in Nathan Frazer hitting his head on the mat.

Speaking on The Stevie Richards Show, the former WWE star said that the suplex outside the ring reminded him of the one Ridge Holland gave to Big E that ended the latter's career.

"This here gives me vibes of Ridge Holland and Big E. Why are you giving any suplexes like this on the floor? Why? And he says nothing personal before he does it."

It remains to be seen when Ilja Dragunov will finally grant Tommaso Ciampa his title match.
