Gunther makes a massive claim after beating John Cena at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event

Gunther has become perhaps the most hated heel character in WWE following his win over John Cena. He posted a social media update to make a massive claim after the match.

The Ring General won the Last Time is Now Tournament to earn an opportunity to retire The Cenation Leader. Heading into the match, the Austrian star had claimed that he was going to make Cena tap out, and that is exactly what he did with his sleeper hold.

Gunther has often spoken about how professional wrestling is sacred to him, and he does not give much importance to the sports entertainment side of the business. Following his win over the star who has been the face of the Stamford-based company for years, the former World Heavyweight Champion took to Instagram to share a picture from the match. In the caption, he claimed that pro wrestling was greater than sports entertainment.

Gunther opened up about his promo on WWE RAW ahead of his match against John Cena

After defeating LA Knight in the final of the Last Time is Now Tournament on SmackDown, Gunther cut an intense promo on the go-home edition of Monday Night RAW ahead of Saturday Night's Main Event.

Speaking to the New York Post Sports following the red brand show, the former Imperium leader claimed that he was not bothered by any of the hate coming his way. Gunther added that he enjoyed the energy he felt from the fans during his promo. The 38-year-old stated that he was glad he succeeded in antagonizing fans.

"I’m not bothered. I went out on RAW on Monday to send a few words towards him [John Cena] as the only chance I had, and I could feel that energy from the audience, where it’s kind of like they don’t want me to stand there and claim that for me. But I enjoyed it. I think that’s great. That’s what I’m here for, to antagonize people, and if they are antagonized, which they seem to be, then I succeeded, and I thrive off that," he said.

Gunther has now retired John Cena and Goldberg within the same year. It will be intriguing to witness what plans WWE has in store for The Ring General.
