WWE Superstar Gunther recently talked about his upcoming clash against John Cena at Saturday Night's Main Event. The 17-time World Champion will hang up his wrestling boots after December 13.
John Cena is one of the greatest names to ever step inside the squared circle. The GOAT has promised fans that he will retire after one last outing inside the ring at Saturday Night's Main Event. He has also highlighted time and time again that he will hang up his iconic jorts and will only show up in suits for his future appearances in WWE.
During a recent interview on ESPN's First Take, Gunther was asked how he and other wrestlers view John Cena as their co-worker. The Ring General said that he didn't have many interactions with Cena backstage, but shared what he thought of The Chain Gang Soldier when he saw him on TV 20 years ago. The former World Heavyweight Champion revealed that he hated Cena's jorts, as he believed they didn't belong in wrestling.
Gunther also lauded the 17-time World Champion as the greatest sports entertainer of all time, but he believed he was the greatest professional wrestler at the moment, and that will be the conflict going into their match at SNME.
John Cena's last match opening SNME - Check out Why!
"I can only speak for myself. I haven’t really — I’ve shook hands with him twice. I haven’t had any other interactions with him otherwise. I just remember when I started wrestling, 20 years ago now, I remember that I hated that guy in jorts on TV week by week, and I always thought it doesn’t belong in the ring. I’m a big purist and traditionalist... John Cena is definitely the greatest sports entertainer of all time, but I’m the greatest professional wrestler right now. That’s going to be the conflict.

WWE star Gunther was not a fan favorite last opponent for John Cena
Gunther defeated several names, including LA Knight, in The Last Time is Now Tournament to earn the opportunity to face John Cena in his final match at Saturday Night's Main Event.
There are mixed opinions on The Ring General being the man to retire Cena, as many wanted to see the GOAT wrestle someone from his past in his last outing inside the ring. One name that was heavily rumored was Edge (Adam Copeland). However, this doesn't seem possible, as Copeland is currently contracted to WWE's rival promotion, AEW.
Many people still believe that the Triple H-led creative team might have some surprises up their sleeves for Cena's last match. It will be interesting to see what WWE has planned for the show on December 13.
