Gunther has been criticized by many WWE fans as not being deserving of the prestigious role of John Cena's final opponent. The Ring General gave an honest response in his latest interview. As you know, in less than 48 hours, the legendary career of John Cena will come to an epic conclusion at Saturday Night's Main Event. While there was no build-up to his final match, fans are excited regardless of what the final match could look like, as it will be a dream bout that many called for when the retirement tour was announced last year.Speaking to the New York Post Sports, Gunther appeared to embrace the hate that he has gotten from fans who feel he doesn't deserve to be John Cena's last opponent:"I’m not bothered. I went out on Raw on Monday to send a few words towards him as the only chance I had, and I could feel that energy from the audience, where it’s kind of like they don’t want me to stand there and claim that for me. But I enjoyed it. I think that’s great. That’s what I’m here for, to antagonize people, and if they are antagonized, which they seem to be, then I succeeded, and I thrive off that.”Gunther already knows exactly how he plans to beat John Cena.Gunther won the Last Time is Now tournament by defeating LA Knight in the finals. Every step along the way was a difficult one for him, and he had to go through the likes of Je'Von Evans, Carmelo Hayes, and Solo Sikoa just to get to the finals. In the last match, he had to resort to targeting LA Knight's neck, and it all culminated with an STF-like submission, making Knight tap out in a brutal finish.Following this, The Ring General insinuated that this was how he planned to take John Cena out. But only a few days later on RAW, he confirmed that this was exactly what he wanted to do to the "never-seen seventeen" time World Champion. Essentially, he said that he wanted to make John Cena do what he has never done before, which was to give up.This, of course, is a direct play on Cena's iconic "Never Give Up" motto, and Gunther is the antithesis of what Cena stands for, which is what makes this an extremely intriguing match-up. It's going to get very interesting at Saturday Night's Main Event, and expect fireworks and possibly even tears as one of the greatest wrestling careers ever comes to a storied close.
