WWE Superstar Gunther recently took some personal shots at Bill Goldberg ahead of Saturday Night's Main Event. The Ring General is set to face John Cena in the latter's retirement match.
At Saturday Night's Main Event in July 2025, Gunther faced Goldberg with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line. This was Da Man's 'retirement' match. Both stars put on an incredible performance inside the ring, but the match ultimately ended in The Ring General's favor after he made the legend pass out with his Sleeper Hold. The former Imperium leader is vowing to do the same with John Cena this weekend.
Ahead of his much-anticipated clash with Cena, Gunther recently made an appearance on ESPN's First Take. During the conversation, host Stephen A. Smith highlighted his list of the top five wrestlers of all time, with Goldberg at the number one spot. Smith asked The Ring General for his thoughts on this list.
The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion mocked the host for putting Da Man at the number one spot, before saying that he loved "choking" the legend out in July. The Austrian added that he believed Goldberg was a special wrestler, but doesn't think anyone would give the latter the top spot in their all-time best wrestlers list.

"What's that number one? Goldberg? [Stephen A - I love Goldberg.] Oh, I love choking him out. I tell you this, I enjoyed that. [Laughs] But I wouldn't agree [with your list]. I think Goldberg is definitely a legend and absolute special wrestler, but I don't think I've ever seen anybody putting [him] on their number one favourite wrestlers list," he said.

Gunther wants John Cena to submit at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event
During his recent interview on The Rich Eisen Show on ESPN, Gunther said that he would happily take the tag of "the most hated man in sports entertainment" when he pins John Cena at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event.
The Ring General added that he wanted to make Cena submit and "give up" in the match.
"Yes. [Laughs] In fact, he's been pinned many times before... So that's normal, but he hasn't been submitted in a very, very long time... I'm looking for him to give up, to admit he can't go no more. That's what I'm going to go for. I think that's where the drama is as well in that match, going into it," he said.
It will be interesting to see what the Stamford-based promotion has in store for John Cena's final WWE match.
