For several decades, WWE was owned by the McMahon Family after initially being started as the Capitol Wrestling Corporation. Vincent Kennedy McMahon bought the company from his father, Vince McMahon Sr., in the early 1980s and made it into the global juggernaut we know today.
After he stepped down from his role as Chairman and CEO in 2022, the company was sold the following year. Endeavor Group bought the majority shares in a merger with WWE to form TKO Group Holdings. Since then, TKO has overseen the release of several stars, with a whopping 57 of them having left this year itself.
While talking on the most recent episode of Writing with Russo on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, former WWE writer Vince Russo revealed a recent conversation he had with David Otunga. The former Nexus member is also a Harvard-educated lawyer who said that, according to the contracts that wrestlers sign, TKO can release anyone for almost anything.
He revealed that if multiple wrestlers came together to fight the company over these contracts, it would force TKO to change their ways; otherwise, they'd continue the way they're doing business currently.

"David was going over these contracts today and and he said in the contract, bro, they can release you for anything, like, you know, cause is cause. Cause can mean anything. So, they can get out of any contract they want at any time. And that's why he said, 'Man, if these guys just fought this, they wouldn't have to deal with it.' But until they do, there's no reason for TKO to change the way they do business," Russo said.
Many big names have been released from WWE this year, including former champions such as Braun Strowman, Andrade, and Dakota Kai, among others. Interestingly, all three of them were brought back to the promotion just a few years ago, only to be released a couple of years later.
