Former WWE champion undergoes name change

A former WWE champion has undergone a name change ahead of this week's episode of RAW. Tomorrow night's episode of RAW will air live from New Mexico and will be the first show following Saturday Night's Main Event.

Zelina Vega captured the Women's United States Championship earlier this year and had an impressive reign with the title before dropping it to SmackDown star Giulia. Vega has now formed an alliance with her husband in real life, Aleister Black, on the blue brand, and has changed her name ahead of tomorrow's edition of the red brand.

According to WWE's official website, the veteran is now known as "Zelina," and her last name has been dropped. You can check it out in the image below.

Aleister Black returned to WWE following WrestleMania 41 after spending the past few years in All Elite Wrestling. Black captured the Trios Championships during his time in AEW but never won a singles title. The veteran is a former NXT Champion but has never been able to win a title on the promotion's main roster.

Former WWE writer reacts to Zelina Vega's SmackDown promo

Wrestling legend Vince Russo recently shared his thoughts on Zelina Vega being paired with Aleister Black on SmackDown.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's BroDown show, Russo discussed a vignette featuring Vega and Black. Vega claimed that aligning with Black was always part of the plan, and Russo went on a rant about how that didn't make sense.

"So when they say sh*t, I literally for a minute try to run it through. So Zelina Vega says this has always been part of the plan. You were running around with the Puerto Rican flag for three years. Like that was part of the plan? This is what I'm talking about. I'm watching the show. So, I know I would never write that line because she was running around with the Puerto Rican flag for three years. So are you telling me the person writing the show does not know that?" Russo said.
