Zack Ryder recently made a surprise return to WWE to have his first main roster match in five years. The former Intercontinental Champion was the mystery opponent for LA Knight in the first round of John Cena's The Last Time is Now Tournament.

Despite putting up a strong fight, he was unable to overcome The Megastar, who picked up the win after hitting Ryder with a BFT. Ryder became one of the biggest stars in the independent circuit as the 'Indy God' while wrestling under his real name, Matt Cardona. Following his return, his real-life wife, Chelsea Green, uploaded a backstage photo with him with the following message:

"What a day to be Zack Ryders wife! 💜🧡💜🧡 @TheMattCardona #SmackDown."

Chelsea Green's honest opinion about her husband, Zack Ryder's time in the independent circuit

In an interview with Gabby AF, Chelsea Green spoke about her husband, Matt Cardona's, incredible run in the independent circuit. She claimed that he had completely changed the perception of independent wrestling.

"I know that I am biased, but he is by far, quite possibly, the best indie wrestler to ever come out of the indies. If you had asked me six years ago if I ever thought he could cut it on the indies, I'd have said 'not a chance.' He has proved everyone wrong; all they saw him as was this typical babyface, boy band member. He has done a complete 180, changed everyone’s opinion of not only him but the independent scene and how you can make a living off of it. And he will go down in history as one of those people that forever changed professional wrestling independently," Green said.

Zack Ryder has been making appearances under his real name on WWE NXT and was part of the 'Invasion' angle earlier this year. While he is primarily associated with TNA, it remains to be seen if his return was a one-off or if he is back permanently in the Stamford-based promotion.
