Gunther retired John Cena at Saturday Night's Main Event. A WWE name believes he now has something in common with Brock Lesnar.
At Saturday Night's Main Event, Gunther faced John Cena in the latter's final WWE match. After a hard-fought contest, it was the Ring General who managed to tap out Cena. Sam Roberts has now opened up about this win.
Speaking on his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts likened the Ring General retiring Cena to Brock Lesnar ending The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak. He noted that this will define him for the rest of his career.
"GUNTHER retiring John Cena is going to be something that is talked about in reference to GUNTHER forever. 20, 30 years from now, ‘There goes GUNTHER, he’s the guy that retired John Cena’. That’s what it’s going to do for GUNTHER, it makes him. It defines him. Brock Lesnar has done a million things, but ultimately, ‘Oh there goes Brock Lesnar, you know the guy who beat the streak’. ‘There goes GUNTHER, the guy that retired John Cena, we hate him’." Gunther made a major claim after retiring John Cena at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event
Gunther is one of the best professional wrestlers in the world. He has often been clear that the mat is sacred to him, and he even considers himself a professional wrestler rather than a sports entertainer. Hence, his match against John Cena was very interesting because it was professional wrestling competing against sports entertainment.
Following his win, the Ring General took to Instagram to share a picture from his match against Cena. He even claimed that professional wrestling was greater than sports entertainment.
"Pro Wrestling > Sports Entertainment," read the caption.
The Ring General has a bright future ahead of him after he retired Goldberg and John Cena in the same year.
