AJ Lee sends message to former WWE tag team partner amid hiatus

AJ Lee hasn't been seen in a WWE ring since she and her husband, CM Punk, defeated Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins at the Wrestlepalooza Premium Live Event.

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Lee and her potential return after she came out of retirement to help her husband. Lee has signed a contract with WWE, and there are rumors she could return next month.

Lee has sent a message to her former tag team partner, Paige, on the 11th anniversary of her Divas Championship.

AJ Lee and Paige (aka Saraya) had a lengthy rivalry as well as an ongoing storyline where the two women became close friends. Lee has now made it clear that even 11 years after their story ended, the two women will always be friends.

"Never over, freaks and geeks and frenemies for life" she wrote.

Paige most recently worked in AEW as Saraya, but has pushed to make her return to WWE to work with Lee again.

Will AJ Lee return to WWE?

Lee had been on the sidelines for more than a decade before she returned on SmackDown earlier this year to help her husband overcome both Lynch and Rollins. Lee was needed at the time and stepped up to help her husband, but Rollins has since been injured, and Punk now has a storyline with Jey Uso.

While Lee was seen signing a deal with WWE, it could have been for just one match, and now there's no need for her to return. Lynch is in a feud with Maxxine Dupri, and even though it appeared that Lee wanted the Women's Intercontinental Championship from Lynch, she hasn't tried to push for a match since Wrestlepalooza.

It's unclear if there are any plans for her return at present.
