It seems WWE might be considering kicking off a new storyline involving real-life couples following the recent feud between Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, and CM Punk and AJ Lee. The latest angle could involve the Rhodes family. At Saturday Night's Main Event XLI, Cody Rhodes defeated Drew McIntyre to retain his Undisputed WWE Championship despite all of McIntyre's tricks to get Cody disqualified. On the latest episode of SmackDown, The American Nightmare was confronted by Aleister Black and his wife, Zelina Vega, during his promo segment at the start of the show.Vega then got in Cody Rhodes' face and slapped him before Nick Aldis walked out and scheduled a match between Black and Cody for the main event. The company seemingly wants to extend the storyline, as the bout ended in a no-contest after McIntyre attacked the referee with a Claymore, leading to chaos. This situation has led fans to speculate about Brandi Rhodes' return to WWE.For those who do not know, Brandi Rhodes is the real-life partner of the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion. She signed with the Stamford-based promotion in March 2011 as a ring announcer and wrestler, and was released in December at her request. However, Brandi returned to the company in 2013 before she was finally released in 2016, just days after her husband, Cody Rhodes, also requested his release.Following her departure, the 42-year-old performed in several independent wrestling companies, and other prominent promotions such as Total Nonstop Action Wrestling/Impact Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and World Wonder Ring Stardom. She later signed with All Elite Wrestling in 2019, where she was the Chief Brand Officer and an on-screen personality before leaving in 2022.Brandi Rhodes might make her return to WWE and join her husband in his budding feud against Aleister Black and Zelina Vega. This could be similar to how AJ Lee came back to the company before Wrestlepalooza to help CM Punk in his rivarly against Seth Rollins and Beck Lynch.Given that the feud between the real-life couples was exciting to fans, the Stamford-based promotion might decide to run a similar storyline on SmackDown to set up a blockbuster mixed tag team match in the near future. Brandi was part of many of Cody's storylines during their AEW tenure. She even accompanied her husband for his WrestleMania XL match against Roman Reigns. Hence, she could once again show up on TV for a one-off feud against the SmackDown duo. However, this angle is speculative, and nothing has been confirmed.Cody Rhodes could lose his Undisputed WWE ChampionshipIf the abovementioned scenario plays out, Cody Rhodes' reign as the Undisputed WWE Champion might be in jeopardy. Aleister Black might finally get a shot at Cody's title after the potential mixed tag team match pitting him and Zelina Vega against The American Nightmare and Brandi Rhodes. If Black challenges for the gold, the creative team could book him to win. A victory over Rhodes would establish him as a formidable heel in the company. While this angle is far-fetched, it is not impossible. It will be interesting to see what plans the creative team has in store for the superstars going forward.
