CM Punk became WWE World Heavyweight Champion at Saturday Night's Main Event (SNME) last month. This was the first title run for Punk after returning to the company two years back.
The Straight Edge Superstar, however, might not be able to retain that gold for a long time because there are several superstars in the pipeline, looking to remove him as the champion. At the same time, some superstars could be booked to win the title from Punk, but they would not be an apt choice.
In this listicle, we will discuss the three best and worst options to dethrone CM Punk as World Heavyweight Champion.
BEST
#6 Bron Breakker
The Badass appears as one of the best choices to become the next World Heavyweight Champion. He is slated to face Punk for the title on the January 5 episode of Monday Night RAW next month. This week on RAW, Breakker took the mic and cut a blistering promo on Punk, vowing to remove him as the champion soon.

Breakker also appears as a perfect choice because he has a decent fan base despite being a heel. He is lightning quick inside the ring and exhibits traits of WWE legend like Goldberg. The promotion also has faith in him, and this was mainly a reason why he was elevated to the roster within a year of his main roster debut.
Moreover, he has Paul Heyman around him, which is extremely good for his prospects in WWE. Therefore, Bron Breakker would be the best superstar to dethrone Punk as WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
#5 LA Knight
LA Knight is another superstar who deserves to win the World Heavyweight Championship. The Megastar was written off TV this week on RAW, after an attack from The Vision. Knight has a loyal fan base, and there is consistent demand from fans to see him rise as a champion.
However, the company hasn't invested that much in him so far. He has been losing some big matches consistently, which also invoked a sharp response from the fans. His in-ring skills are great, though. For example, his match against Gunther on SmackDown last week was a great bout. The fans disapproved of Gunther's victory by giving dislikes to this video on WWE's official YouTube channel. The promotion can think of making him the World Heavyweight Champion, and this might pay off well in the long run.
#4 Gunther
Gunther is also a decent choice to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the third time. He dropped it to Punk at SummerSlam this year and disappeared for the next two months.
However, one must not forget that he is one of the best in-ring talents the company has. This was perhaps a reason why he was booked to win the Heavyweight championship back from Jey Uso in June this year. And if the situation arises, he might also remove Punk as the champion once again.
WORST
#3 Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns shall not be a good choice to dethrone Punk as the champion. The two don't have any storyline so far. Reigns has been more focused on his singles run and against The Vision this year. After the clash at WrestleMania 41, The OTC1 hasn't gone against Punk.
There is a general heat between them that has always been there between Punk and Roman Reigns. Moreover, Reigns also hasn't set his eyes on Punk's title so far. After the loss at Survivor Series: WarGames, he confronted Cody Rhodes, and not Punk. Therefore, without any storyline between them, the Tribal Chief won't look good removing Punk as the champion.
#2 Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins shall also not be a decent choice to remove Punk as the champion. The Visionary returning next year, and snatching the title once again from Punk, would be going back to square one. In essence, Seth Rollins as the World Heavyweight Champion isn't good for the company either. The fans won't be excited to see him become the World Heavyweight Champion again.
He has had enough rivalry with Punk for the past two years. The fans have had enough of the promos and fights between them. It would be fine if Punk returns and focuses on his revenge storyline with The Vision rather than winning back the World Heavyweight Championship.
#1 Former WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar would be another bad choice to win the World Heavyweight Championship. Although Lesnar is rumored for yet another championship run, it would be fine if it is for the Undisputed WWE Championship and not the World Heavyweight title.
Moreover, The Beast Incarnate doesn't have any storyline with Punk. There is also no heat between them. They had a rivalry almost a decade back in WWE, but that's done and dusted.
Lesnar also makes a part-time appearance in WWE now. After becoming a WWE Champion, he would be required to be there every week, which might not be possible for him. Therefore, he would be the wrong choice as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion after CM Punk
