Womens Boxing Icon Claressa Shields Offers ‘No Knock’ Clarification on Controversial Tweet Shading Angel Reese's BET Awards nod

Women's boxing icon Claressa Shields on Friday offered clarification on her controversial tweet shading Angel Reese. Back in June, Shields took a jab at the Chicago Sky star after she was overlooked for the BET Sportswoman of the Year award.

During an appearance on the 'Club Shay Shay' podcast, host Shannon Sharpe questioned Shields on whether she was "upset" about Angel receiving the BET nod. The two-time Olympic gold medalist denied being upset and took the opportunity to clarify her earlier comments.

"I hate when they spin narratives that really get on my nerves. They want to spin everything and make it into something negative. I like what she's doing," Shields said.

Continuing to offer clarity, Shields claimed her comments were "no knock" on anyone else.

"It was my first time being nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year award with BET and I just thought I won it," Shields continued. "The only one who had an Olympic gold medal up there was Simone Biles. So I am like either she gon get it or I'mma get it. So it was no knock ot any of the other girls."

Shields’ clarification referred to the tweet she posted after Reese was named BET Sportswoman of the Year. At the time, the Olympian questioned the decision and took a light jab at Reese.

"Still don’t know how I didn’t win the Sportswoman of the Year for the @BETAwards but Congrats to Angel Reese and all the other Nominees I just thought accolades mattered," she said via X (formerly Twitter)

However, despite her earlier comments, Shields cleared the air during her appearance on Club Shay Shay, claiming she has plenty of respect for Reese.

Clareesa Shields didn't hold back after Angel Reese won the BET Sportswoman of the Year Award in June. The boxer voiced her disapproval on X (formerly Twitter), openly questioning Reese’s credentials for receiving the honor.

The tweet drew a response from a fan who argued that Reese had “accolades” as well. That only pushed Shields further, as she fired back by questioning who truly had the bigger list of accomplishments.

"Yes she does but who has more accolades…. More success in their field. Please use google before responding," Shields remarked.

Despite her initial frustration, Shields has since spoken positively of Reese on multiple occasions, while also offering a clarification on her tweet.
