With the WNBA CBA negotiations' 30-day extension set to expire in a few days, there are once again talks about a lockout and work stoppage.

On Tuesday, The Associated Press' Doug Feinberg reported that the WNBA has a latest proposal that includes "revenue sharing with a maximum salary of more than $1.1 million available to more than one player per team." In the proposal, Feinberg said the new league minimum would be $220,000, and the average salary is $460,000.

On Thursday's "NBA Today," WNBA insider Alexa Philippou reported the latest update on the CBA negotiations, sharing how the Women's National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) views the newest proposal.

"I'm hearing that the players and the WNBPA do not feel like this proposal moves things forward," Philippou said.

Philippou added that the players' union said that while the WNBA's latest proposal increases salaries, it is still not in line with the players' request that it "needs to grow with the business."

"The issue that the players and the WNBPA seem to have with this proposal is that it does now meaningfully actually apply their request to have a revenue share system in the next (CBA). What they want, and the players have been really consistent in this message, is that they feel that the salary system needs to grow with the business.

"And so far, this proposal does not include that to the extent they have been asking for."

The WNBPA has outlined several demands over the course of the negotiations. Most notably, the players' union wants a higher salary through a new revenue-sharing model. The players believe this model will help "salaries grow with the business."

In the WNBA's latest proposal, the league's minimum salary will be raised to more than $220,000, which is above the maximum during the 2025 season ($214,466). However, the proposal reportedly did not meet the players' demands.

League insider says that there is 'a lot of work left to be done' in WNBA CBA negotiations

In the same appearance on "NBA Today," Philippou said that a new CBA is not on the horizon.

"There's a lot of work left to be done in bargaining for them to move this forward into the direction that we could we talking about a deal anytime soon," Philippou said on Thursday.

Philippou added that there are still many issues that need to be worked on, including what specific revenue-sharing model the players would agree to.

The current CBA expired on Oct. 31, but the two sides agreed on an extension that made Nov. 30 the new deadline. If the sides still cannot agree on a new deal, another extension poses the risk of a work stoppage.

Without the new CBA, the expansion draft, free agency and the 2026 WNBA draft cannot be conducted.
