A new WNBA CBA agreement has seen the league and its players, led by the WNBPA, deadlocked in negotiations. According to “The Athletic’s” Ben Pickman on Monday, the league has rejected plans for bigger pay, more games and player security proposed by the players’ union.“The WNBA and its players' union remain far apart in labor negotiations, with the players asking for more than double the share of revenue proposed by the league,” Pickman wrote.“The league and the union are both proposing salary systems based on league revenue, but the two sides have distinctly different approaches … which has driven a wedge into the extended negotiations,” he added.Pickman reported that the league and the players' union are in a stalemate in their labor negotiations. He added that the main issue is players asking for a much bigger slice of the league's revenue, which is more than double what the league is offering. The league and the players’ union extended the current WNBA CBA deadline to Jan. 9, 2026, to avoid a shutdown. The WNBA’s reported proposal includes a maximum base salary around $1 million for top players in 2026, a minimum salary above $225,000 and a team salary cap projected up to $5 million, which is a large jump from about $1.5 million from last season. The players have always proposed a better revenue-sharing model. They want a formula that will give them a fair and growing percentage, 30% of league revenue, which is similar to structures seen in other pro sports unions. League, on the other hand, wants proposals tying salaries and the cap to revenue growth, but the players have argued that the percentage of revenue they’d receive is still too low and could shrink over time.Paige Bueckers speaks on current WNBA CBA negotiationsDallas Wings star Paige Bueckers spoke to Rachel Axon of “Sports Business Journal” while at USA Basketball’s senior national team camp on the current WNBA CBA negotiations.“We are to stand firm in what we believe we have earned, and the people before us have earned, so it’s continued negotiations, but we’re being firm on what we believe in and what we stand for," Bueckers said concerning the WNBA CBA negotiations.Paige Bueckers - Source: GettyBueckers is one of the most marketable stars in the league.
