Sophie Cunningham had a fitting response for fans who accused her of talking about Caitlin Clark unprompted, allegedly to profit off the Indiana Fever guard’s star power.

On Thursday, Cunningham, who has signed on for Project B, a women’s basketball league set to debut in November 2026, shared that she also pitched the idea of joining the league to Clark.

“All these leagues are great, but at the end of the day, if you don't have the WNBA, you don't have the platform,” Cunningham said on her "Show Me Something" podcast. “You don't have the eyes. You don't have the recognition... I tried to get her (Caitlin Clark) to play in Project B. She was like, 'No.'”

A clip of Cunningham sharing this news was shared on Instagram, much to the dislike of some fans. One fan left a message in the comments section, accusing the Fever guard of repeatedly talking about Clark.

“Sophie Cunningham, stop talking about CC challenge [IMPOSSIBLE],” the fan wrote.
“Please stop asking/talking to me about her… IMPOSSIBLE,” Cunningham replied.

Sophie Cunningham and eight other players confirmed to be joining Project B

Apart from Sophie Cunningham, several other WNBA stars have also joined Project B. Here is a full list of players the international women’s basketball league has announced so far:

A substantially higher paycheck than the WNBA and the allure of international travel and competition could see more players flocking to the league in the future.

However, Caitlin Clark, perhaps the biggest star in basketball, has stayed committed to the WNBA, repeatedly rejecting offers from other basketball leagues, including those from Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart’s Unrivaled.

The 3v3 league has quickly become one of the best options available to WNBA players in the offseason. But despite the abundance of benefits the league offers its players, Clark remains unswayed.

Unless the WNBA meets the players' demands in the ongoing CBA negotiations, it will risk losing even more talent to new and upcoming leagues. Project B’s signing of Nneka Ogwumike, president of the WNBPA, is a move telling of the relationship between the league and its players.
