Awa Fam is the new name dominating the WNBA mock drafts across the internet. The Spanish center was projected to be the number one pick in the April 2026 WNBA draft by ESPN on Friday.

Fam plays for Valencia Basket in the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto in Spain. She might not be the most developed player right now, but she has shown great promise for the future.

On Wednesday, Awa Fam joined Hunter Cruse on a livestream for a brief interview, where she revealed her preferred cities she would like to visit before next year's draft.

"For me, my top place is Los Angeles, of course, I got it from I love Los Angeles," she said. "Dallas, too, because I have one friend there, and she's like, 'this is amazing, you need to come here,' so Dallas two. I don't know more, maybe Chicago. Maybe these three are my top list."

The Dallas Wings won the lottery and secured the first pick on Sunday and they will get to choose the best prospect from a draft class for the second consecutive time. This year, they chose Paige Bueckers as the first pick, who went on to win the Rookie of the Year award.

The Wings need a center, and they might take their chances on Awa Fam, as Dominique Malonga proved last season that an underdeveloped young player with great potential can do well in the WNBA with the right guidance.

Awa Fam names A'ja Wilson as the best player for her in the league

Later in the interview, Hunter Cruse asked Awa Fam to name some WNBA players she liked to watch on film or study. The Spanish center cut to the chase and unleashed her inner A'ja Wilson admirer.

"A'ja Wilson, I love her," she said. "I love her vibe off the court. She is amazing on the court. She can do all things. She can shoot, she can defend, she can do amazing blocks, she helps her teammates a lot, and she takes a lot of responsibilities."

"When I was watching last season's playoffs, I saw her and I was like 'I would love to play like her'. For me, A'ja Wilson is the best one."

Awa Fam has a similar build to A'ja Wilson. She is 6-foot-5, while the LV Aces star is 6-foot-4. So studying Wilson is the best thing she can do to improve her game, as Wilson has cemented her place among the female basketball greats with her recent triumphs.

The Aces star won her fourth MVP award last season and led her team to a third championship in the last five years.
