In a competitive matchup at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut (Eastern Time), the New York Liberty secured an 87-78 win over the Connecticut Sun on Friday. The Liberty jumped out to an early lead and maintained control through a balanced offensive attack and strong defensive presence.
Sabrina Ionescu led the Liberty with 36 points on 14-for-22 shooting, including 4-for-8 from 3-point range, while also contributing 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Aneesah Morrow finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds on 7-for-14 shooting.
Tina Charles led Connecticut with 17 points and 8 rebounds on 7-for-15 shooting. No other Sun player scored in double figures. The Sun’s bench contributed 16 points, with no additional players highlighted for scoring.
The Liberty are now on a season-high four-game winning streak. New York is secong in the WNBA with a 18-10 record. Meanwhile, Connecticut (5-22) are moored at the bottom of the league standings
The Liberty won one of the first two meetings with the Sun: a 100-52 victory on June 2 in Connecticut and a 78-62 win on August 2 in New York.
