The Chicago Sky stayed winless after getting blown out 99-74 by the New York Liberty on Thursday. It was total domination from the reigning champions, who put on an offensive showcase and capitalized on the Sky’s stagnant attack.
The Liberty were red-hot, shooting 55.2% and drilling 19 of 34 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Sky struggled with just 36.2% shooting and went 11-for-27 from deep.
New York saw balanced scoring, with newcomer Natasha Cloud pouring in 18, Kennedy Burke adding 17 off the bench and starters Sabrina Ionescu (16), Breanna Stewart (12) and Jonquel Jones (11) all hitting double digits.
For the Sky, Rachel Banham paced the team with 16 points in a reserve role. Rebecca Allen followed with 11, and veteran Courtney Vandersloot led the starters with 14.
The Liberty also capitalized on Chicago’s sloppy play, turning 23 Sky turnovers into 27 points. Despite being outrebounded 36-28, New York edged out Chicago in the paint, 24-22.

After briefly holding a 12-9 lead, the Liberty responded with an 8-0 run to surge ahead 20-12. The Sky, however, rallied late in the quarter to trim the deficit, trailing just 28-23 at the end of the first.
The second quarter was all Liberty, as they outscored Chicago 25-9. Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu each dropped 12 points to help New York take a commanding 53-32 lead into halftime.
Chicago showed some life in the third quarter with a brief burst, but the Liberty quickly responded. The quarter ended evenly, with both squads dropping 22 apiece.
Even in a blowout, both teams kept starters on the floor in the fourth, but the Liberty didn’t let up, outscoring the Sky 24-20 to lock in the 25-point win.
Next up for the Liberty is a Saturday showdown against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, while the Sky will face the LA Sparks on Sunday.
