Stephanie White’s stint in broadcasting began in 2002. She worked as a television color commentator and sideline reporter during Fever games. White sat out the 2002 season due to an injury.
White returned for a second stint with the Fever and led them to a 24-20 regular-season finish. They made a deep run into the playoffs before losing 3-2 to the Las Vegas Aces.
Stephanie White speaks on WNBA CBA negotiations
Fever coach Stephanie White spoke about the deadlocked negotiations between the WNBA and its players for a new CBA. She emphasized the importance of a fair CBA for both players and the league.
“I don't have the same experience in the CBA as these players do,” White told IndyStar. “I was a part of the very first CBA agreement where we wanted insurance all year round, because we just had insurance during the season. Now, I think it's really important to have a fair and equitable agreement for both sides.”
Indiana suffered from player injuries last season. They had to make use of the hardship contract options, leading White to advocate for a roster expansion.
“I think it's really important, I think we all want to see roster sizes expand, as well, to make sure that we're not in situations where we're having … four or five hardship contracts or something throughout the course of the year,” White said. “And we're developing young talent in our league. There are a lot of players who deserve an opportunity to develop in the WNBA that aren't on teams.”
The players and league are yet to come to an agreement despite pushing the deadline from Oct. 31 to Nov. 30. The league’s recent offer of a max salary of $1.1 million hasn’t changed the minds of the players.
