Lexie Hull played with two black eyes, or raccoon eyes, for a few games in late August and early September after a brutal collision. WNBA fans paid tribute to Hull at Halloween by dressing up as the Indiana Fever, wearing her jersey, and applying black eye makeup. In an Instagram post by Overtime Women's Basketball, several WNBA fans got into the Halloween spirit by recreating Hull's tough look. From men, women and children, they wore their No. 10 jerseys and sported the iconic raccoon eyes. Early in the first quarter, Skylar Diggins drove to the basket, with Lexie Hull trying to take the charge. The ball got poked loose, so Hull turned around to get it.However, Gabby Williams also tried to get the ball and collided heads with the Stanford product. The two players were on the floor as the play continued. Hull had to get taken out and brought to the locker room, possibly to go under concussion protocol.Surprisingly, the Fever allowed Hull to return to the game with a big knot on her forehead. Her teammates couldn't even believe she was playing despite the injury. But how did it turn into two black eyes?According to the Cleveland Clinic, hematomas on the head are a common cause of double black eyes, or raccoon eyes. Since hematomas are a collection of blood under the skin, when they subside, the blood has to go somewhere. It goes down to the tissues around the eyes, which is what Hull experienced. "Honestly, when it happened, I was relieved, because I could feel myself, like I was good to go, like I felt completely with it," Hull said after the injury, according to the IndyStar. "They did all the tests they needed to do, and put ice on it right away try to keep the swelling down, but I felt good knowing that, like, obviously, it could have been a lot worse. And I'm grateful for the people online wanting to check on me and make sure that I'm OK, but I am OK, I've been fully checked out."Hull didn't miss any games because of it, helping the Fever finish the regular season as the sixth seed. They were one win away from the WNBA Finals before falling short in overtime of Game 5 against the Las Vegas Aces in the semifinals.
