New York Liberty star Natasha Cloud reflected on disappointment over her biological father not connecting with her. She spoke with Anna Martin, host of the “Modern Love” podcast, which was published on Wednesday, where she shared insights into her personal life and experiences.
According to Cloud, when she learned that her biological father had never sought contact, she accepted the truth with maturity. She added that she had chosen not to pursue a relationship with him and reflected on how she felt upon learning about him.
"I remember going home and just being like, so, he didn't want me,” Natasha Cloud said. “There’s no need to go look for this sperm donor. Like, I don't have a want to.”
She mentioned that her mother spoke to her about her biological father's identity when she was 18.
“She told me he lived a town over,” Cloud added. “It's crazy because it's like, I know you saw my name, I know he saw my mom's name in the paper. … For me, that was the final chapter close. I just wanted to know his name. I wanted to know where he was from. I just wanted to know about him, and that was to the extent that I ever wanted to know him.”
Cloud is bi-racial. She shared that her biological father is black, while her mom and stepfather are white. She has publicly praised her stepfather and honored his role in her upbringing.
The former Phoenix Mercury player grew up with four older white siblings. While the Cloud family is tight, she reportedly blocked her only brother, Eric, on social media for trolling her.
She is married to a softball player, Aleshia Ocasio. They secretly got married in October 2020, out of fear that U.S. President Donald Trump would do away with same-sex relationships.
Natasha Cloud applauds the WNBA’s role in activism
Natasha Cloud has been a vocal supporter of social justice off the court. She applauded the WNBA for its perceived role in what she termed ‘saving democracy’ in 2020.
“I just wish that during this time we would have a little bit more voices from our league because there was a point where we saved democracy in 2020," she said during her time on the "A Touch More with Sue Bird & Megan Rapinoe" podcast.
Recently, she has lent her voice to the Palestinian cause. She criticized Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu for his role in the suffering of the people in Gaza.
She’s not without controversy either. Natasha Cloud stirred up a frenzy when she talked about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. She tweeted and later deleted a post on X, where she talked about the suspect’s background and tied the killing to racism.
