The Dallas Mavericks fired general manager Nico Harrison, over nine months after he engineered the shocking Luka Doncic trade that brought the Slovenian star to the LA Lakers and shipped Anthony Davis to Dallas. Among those who reacted to the news was Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham.
Cunningham learned the news while filming their "Show Me Something" podcast. Her co-host West Wilson told her about the news, pointing out that Harrison was a graduate of the University of Montana State, before Cunningham asked if he graduated from the university.
"So did he graduate because he's made some terrible moves," Cunningham said.
"What? Getting rid of Luka?," Wilson asked.
"Duh," she answered.
Harrison was fired amid the Mavericks' poor start in the 2025-2026 NBA regular season, their season start since trading former franchise superstar Luka Doncic last February.
The Mavericks have also dealt with numerous injuries since the trade, including Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively, Daniel Gafford, and Davis.
Meanwhile, Cunningham is also at a career crossroads this WNBA offseason as she is currently a free agent after spending last season with the Indiana Fever, the team that brought her popularity in the past year.
Cunningham appeared in 30 games with the Fever last season, before going down with an MCL injury. Cunningham finished the season averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
Sophie Cunningham makes her desire for next team clear amid CBA talks
While free agents await the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) talks this offseason, Sophie Cunningham made her desire clear for her next team.
In an Oct. 31 episode of the Show Me Something podcast, Cunningham said that she is looking for a big contract, which could earn her enough to buy a house.
"I think the next team I play for, I want a bigger contract. So then I can buy a house and be homey and cozy," she said.
Cunningham signed a one-year, $100,000 contract with the Fever last season, following six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury.
Cunningham has also ventured out of sports with her podcasts and numerous advertisements, and event appearances since the 2025 WNBA season ended.
