The Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve on Saturday has been suspended by the WNBA for Game 4 of the semifinal game against the Phoenix Mercury. This comes after she was ejected during the final minute of the 84-76 defeat to the Mercury in Game 3 on Friday.

Her postgame presser's unloading on the officials also led to the suspension. Reeve and assistant coaches Eric Thibault and Rebekkah Brunson have also been fined by the league.

The incident arose from a controversial late play when Lynx star Napheesa Collier was injured after contact during a steal attempt by Phoenix’s Alyssa Thomas. No foul was called, and as Reeve was ejected from the court, she reacted harshly during her presser after the game.

The referees’ union (National Basketball Referees Association) posted a video clip and defended the no-call. They said that Thomas legally got to the ball first and that any contact was incidental.

Reeve has publicly questioned officiating in the playoffs before. After the 2024 WNBA Finals loss, she made remarks implying that the officiating adversely affected her team. However, those comments did not result in a fine or suspension at that time.

What's next for coach Cheryl Reeve and Minnesota Lynx?

Coach Cheryl Reeve will miss Game 4 of the semifinals series while serving her one-game suspension. In her place will be associate/assistant coaching staff, likely Eric Thibault, who will have to step in.

Napheesa Collier was hurt late in Game 3 on the contentious play. There's uncertainty about her status for Game 4 and beyond, which will be a tough blow for Minnesota.

For the Minnesota Lynx, Natisha Hiedeman led with 19 points, two rebounds and three assists off the bench. Napheesa Collier scored 17 points on 8-of-15 shooting, six rebounds and three assists.
