After the “This is the Turning Point Tour” event at Louisiana State University on Monday, Governor Jeff Landry made a public appeal, asking for a statue of Charlie Kirk to be installed on campus. Angel Reese’s former teammate, Flau'jae Johnson, seemed puzzled by the request and didn’t appear to share his enthusiasm.

Landry recorded his message in front of the school’s Tiger mascot, saying that a statue of Kirk would represent free speech.

“We're going to put a challenge out to the LSU Board of Supervisors to find a place to put a statue of Charlie Kirk to defend the freedom of speech on college campuses,” Landry said. “Come on, ladies and gentlemen, let's see if we can be the first campus to do it.”

At first, Johnson reacted to Landry’s post with a simple “????,” clearly unsure what to make of his proposal.

She then cleared her stance in a reply to a comment, explaining that she is not a fan of Kirk because of his questionable remarks toward people of color.

“For the sake of clarity, if you align yourself with or endorse his racist rhetoric and discriminatory views toward people of color, I respectfully ask that you utilize the unfollow option at the top right of my profile. 🙏🏽,” Johnson replied to a comment.

Johnson’s comments hold significance value, considering that she is a high-profile name at the university, having spent three years already as a Tiger.

Johnson’s opinions carry significant weight, as she is one of the most recognizable figures associated with LSU, set to begin her fourth year with the program.

Angel Reese received criticism for comments after Charlie Kirk’s death

Angel Reese was one of the more notable WNBA players who spoke out after the killing of Charlie Kirk. Rather than expressing sympathy for his family, she criticized the late activist for the things he said while he was alive. Reese made it clear that she believed his past behavior didn’t warrant kind words after his death.

“If you want people to have kind words when you pass, you should say kind words when you’re alive,” Angel Reese captioned her Instagram Story.

Her post angered many of Kirk’s supporters. Even people who didn’t support Kirk believed that Reese’s comments were insensitive. However, Reese didn’t back down. In a subsequent post, she doubled down:

“and I’ll stand behind this. be kind, now more than ever.”

Angel Reese’s comments came just one day after the Chicago Sky played their final regular-season game. The season marked Reese’s second year in the WNBA, and her team once again fell short of making the playoffs.
