The 2025 Indiana Fever season is the team's third season under head coach Stephanie White and its 26th WNBA season overall. For the first time since 2016, the Fever qualified for the playoffs after finishing sixth in the 2024 regular season.

With a 24-victory season in 2025, they ensured back-to-back appearances in the playoffs. They are only two wins away from making it to the WNBA finals as of September 25.

Indiana Fever has won one WNBA Championship as of September 2025. They defeated the Minnesota Lynx in the 2012 WNBA Finals. Tamika Catchings was named the Finals MVP for averaging 22.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game as of September 2024. Catching’s led Fever to win their only title by defeating the Minnesota Lynx. Despite facing home-court disadvantage, the Fever won game 1 on the road by 76-70 as four of their starters recorded double-digit points, and Eriana Larkins had a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds to give them the lead. Lynx fought back and won game 2 of the finals by 83-71, which was crucial as Fever would host the next two games.

Fever won game 3 at home by 59-76 with an excellent defensive effort, recording nine steals and three blocks. Shavonte Zellous dropped a 30-point bomb, which was more than half of the Lynx’s score. Erlana Larkins dropped another double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds, with Catchings scoring 17 points with two steals and two blocks to take an all-important lead of 2-1 in the series.

Fever won game 4 to close out the series with a 3-1 Finals victory over the Minnesota Lynx. Seimone Augustus of the Lynx was only allowed to shoot 3-21 from the field as the Fever won the game 78-87. Fever’s four starters scored double-digit points as Tamika Catchings had one of the best performances in a Finals series. She recorded 25 points, four rebounds, eight assists, one steal, and three blocks, shooting 43.8% from the field on 16 field-goal attempts.

The Indiana Fever has made three WNBA Finals appearances and has a record of 1-2. Their first finals appearance came in 2009 under Linn Dunn, who also led the Fever to another WNBA final in 2012. They faced the Phoenix Mercury in 2009 and the Minnesota Lynx in 2012. In 2015, Stephanie White was appointed the head coach who led the Fever to their third WNBA Finals in her first season. However, they faced a familiar opponent in the Minnesota Lynx, who defeated them in 2015 and took revenge for the 2012 Finals loss.

What teams did the Indiana Fever lose the Championship Finals against?

The Indiana Fever lost their first final to the Phoenix Mercury, led by Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter, with an experienced core of Penny Taylor, Tangela Smith, and Tameka Johnson. The series went back and forth and was decided in Game 5. The deciding factor was the second quarter in game 5 as the Fever were blown out 19-35. Despite this setback, Fever fought hard and cut down the lead to only two points with a minute to go. The Phoenix Mercury won the game, shooting six free throws in the last minute as the Fever scored zero points. Diana Taurasi was named the 2009 Finals MVP as she averaged 20.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game in the finals series.

Fever’s second loss in the WNBA Finals came against Cheryl Reeve’s Minnesota Lynx in 2015. After trailing 2-1 after three games, the Fever won game 4 at home to take the series to game 5. They were playing away to the Lynx and faced one of the best defenses in the league to win their second championship. However, Fever was restricted to 52 points in a slow-paced game and was defeated 52-69. Both Sylvia Fowles and Rebekkah Brunson recorded a double-double of points and rebounds. Sylvia Fowles was named the 2015 Finals MVP as she averaged 15.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game in the finals, shooting 69.6% from the field, which is the most ever by a Finals MVP in WNBA history.
