A’Ja Wilson was born on August 8, 1996, in Columbia, South Carolina, U.S. On April 12, A’Ja Wilson was the first overall pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft, who is a power forward for the Las Vegas Aces. She is currently in her eighth season with the same team. In 2022 and 2023, Wilson led her team to consecutive WNBA championships in 2022 and 2022. She added another title in 2025. Wilson earned many prestigious awards, including the 2023 and 2025 WNBA Finals MVP, the 2022, 2023, and 2025 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, the 2020, 2022, 2024, and 2025 WNBA MVP, and the 2018 WNBA Rookie of the Year.

As of October 2025, in her international journey, she won gold medals at the 2020 & 2024 Women’s Basketball at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo and Paris, the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Spain, and the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Australia.

A’Ja Wilson College

A’Ja Wilson went to the University of South Carolina and joined the South Carolina Gamecocks Women’s Basketball Team, led by head coach Dawn Staley, in 2014. Wilson won numerous awards during her freshman season, 2014-2015, including the SEC Freshman of the Year and the five-time SEC Freshman of the Week. She and her team won the 2015 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament against Tennessee in the finals with a score of 74-54. She was selected for the All-America Third Team and finished her season with five double-doubles.

During her sophomore season, 2015-16, she was the two-time SEC Player of the Year and the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in the same season. She was named to the All-America First Team, the All-SEC First Team, and the four-time SEC Player of the Week. After defeating Mississippi State with a score of 66-52, her team secured its second consecutive title in the 2016 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament.

She was the SEC Tournament MVP, the SEC Player of the Year, and the First Team All-American for the second time during her junior season, 2016-2017. Wilson and her team won their third consecutive title of the 2017 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament with a score of 59-49 against Mississippi State and won the NCAA Championship.

During her senior season, 2017-2018, she earned many important awards, including the Wooden Award, the Naismith Award, the Wade Trophy, and three-time SEC Player of the Week. With a score of 62-51 victory over Mississippi State, the South Carolina Women’s Basketball Team won the 2018 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament for the fourth time in a row.

A’Ja Wilson’s High School
