Notably, HasanAbi and Knowles debated each other in July 2020 on an episode of "The Issue Is: with Elex Michaelson." Here, the two discussed the government's response to the coronavirus, federal agents, and American presidents. Since then, the two have not personally interacted with each other online.

In the October 29 hearing, Michael Knowles touched on past comments from Hasan, where he called for the "murder" of property owners:

"Kill them! Kill those motherf**kers! Murder those motherf**kers in the streets! Let the streets, soak in their red capitalist bloods, dude."

These comments went viral in September 2025, with many, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, accusing the streamer of "incitement to murder."

Knowles brought up the "assassination-related musings" of Hasan in relation to the shooting of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk and said:

"The New York Times reacted by publishing the assassination-related musings of Hasan Piker, a prominent left-wing streamer, who has suggested the assassination of Senator Tom Cotton, and who has said, quote, of conservatives, 'Kill those motherf'ers! Murder those motherf'ers in the streets! Let the streets, soak in their red f'ing capitalist blood."

Overall, Knowles brought up HasanAbi's comments to shed light on an "ideological issue at every level of the American left."

Michael J. Knowles reacts to the HasanAbi CollarGate controversy

On October 7, 2025, clips of Hasan allegedly shocking his dog, Kaya, with an e-collar went viral online. Many online users accused the streamer of animal abuse, calling him out for being a poor dog owner. Hasan responded, claiming the collar only had the capacity to vibrate and not to shock.

Michael Knowles reacted to the controversy, dubbed "CollarGate," and stated that this representation of Hasan depicts him to be the ideal leftist:

"This guy is the left. He is the young left. In that way, I'm very grateful to him. He checks every single box. Callous as can be. Prone to violence, hates America. As he opens... the first line of the video goes, 'I hate this country so much. This country is so terrible. It's the worst ever.'"

He also referenced Hasan's controversial statements on landlords and suggested that the violent tone behind these statements indicates that the streamer likely did shock his dog:

"I remember after Charlie was assassinated, a clip of his started going viral again in which he said that he wanted the streets to run red and be soaked in the blood of capitalists. I think he would shock a dog."

In other news, New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani commented on HasanAbi's statements, saying "America deserved 9/11," and called them "objectionable and reprehensible."
