The brothers’ reunion and the discovery of the money in The Town season 1

The series opens with the reunion of Efe and Selim after many years apart. Their strained relationship is put to the test after the unexpected death of their mother, which forces them to return to their provincial hometown.
Here, they reconnect with Ahmet, a childhood friend. Their reunion turns sour when they find a vehicle collision with two slain men and a huge sum of money. They quickly realize that this money belongs to the Sepekci family, a powerful mafia group.
Efe, Selim, and Ahmet make a fateful decision to take the money, hoping it will help them escape their financial troubles. However, they are fully aware of the dangers involved in keeping such a massive amount of stolen money. Despite their discomfort with the idea of dealing with black-market cash, they decide that it’s their best shot at changing their lives.

The mafia’s response

As the trio begins to plan their escape, they realize that the Sepekci mafia will soon be looking for their money. They try to dispose of the car crash victims' bodies to buy time. This plot fails when Yildrim, a mafia member, follows them, suspicious of their monetary dealings. Yildrim tortures Ahmet, who doesn't divulge anything, increasing the group's fear.
Internal tensions rise as the mafia's retaliation becomes more imminent. A mole named Nilhat helps the Sepekci family determine that someone stole the money. Killings increase as Yildrim hunts. Nilhat had wanted to use the cash to escape the mob. When he is killed and revealed to be a spy, things get more serious.
Efe's retribution and the cost of allegiance

As the mafia closes in, Efe and his friends realize that the police in their town are also corrupt and have already handed them over to the Sepekci family. This betrayal leads to Selim’s death at the hands of the mafia. Devastated and angry, Efe is consumed by a desire for revenge. He cannot simply rely on the authorities to bring justice to his brother’s death, so he takes matters into his own hands.
Efe plans to avenge their betrayal by filming a corrupt police officer's confession and posting it on social media to prevent tampering. Efe kills Caner Sepekci as his final revenge, implicating the Sepekci family in Selim's death. After the mafia's control on town weakens, Efe and his buddies leave with the money, believing they avenged Selim.

In the series’ final moments, Efe and his friends, including Ahmet and Begum, make their escape from the town with the stolen money. An emotional toll remains despite the mafia's waning grip on town. Begum, Efe's continuous support, is pregnant, signaling the group's new beginning. Escape costs them, as they leave a place forever changed by their acts.
The final tragic note comes when Huso, a character whose life has been deeply impacted by the events, kills Yildrim after watching Efe’s confession video. His daughter is left heartbroken, symbolizing the further collapse of relationships and lives in the wake of the brothers’ fateful decision.
